2 Commoning - A pattern language

This is where I develop a pattern language for commoning, within the foprop framework.

This is one of the foprop projects.

**foprop** = forces of production, relations of production. The project has five streams of work in progress, oriented to the conduct of a transformational **activist life**, and making **a Living Economy** of **P2P-commons**.

**A pattern language for commoning**

This pattern language - Making the Living Economy - frames the conduct of an activist life. It does this via a repertoire of **literacies** of living and making. Each pattern frames a literacy - a way of **resolving a conflict or contradiction** in activist living - and each literacy enables a particular kind of production: an activist life is a life of *production*, in which many patterns are interwoven or simultaneously mobilised.

Here we offer a frame for conceptualising **practice**; specifically transformative, **activist** practice: notably the practice of **making the living economy**. It furnishes the frame for a **pattern language of commoning**.

The narrative frame of the pattern language is organised under four scopes, each of which is grounded primarily in one of four ‘zones of proximity’ in the foprop weave.
